Course Overview
Have you ever wanted to be a part of your very own theatre company? To not only act, but to design costumes, create a set or even publicise a show? Well now’s your chance...
This unit focuses on the process of creating a theatre production through the use of stagecraft. The students are first introduced to a range of stagecraft that are used in the theatre including lights, sound, multimedia, costume, set, publicity and acting. Next the class begins a process of applying these stagecraft to a selected script for public performance. Students are encouraged to ‘specialise’ in one or two stagecraft and add their own approach and reading of the play as they devise and collaborate with others to produce the performance. The Company provides an opportunity to explore the multifaceted nature of the creative process of theatre. Students are able to draw effectively from a wide range of skills that cross over into English, Media, Music, Visual Art and History as they work to construct a theatrical piece. The class also views and comments upon professional theatre work with a focus on stagecraft.
